  9. Every day there are more computer viruses causing problems to users in all
  10. countries. México is not an exception and the UNAM (National University of
  11. México) organized a research group to help reduce the problem. This program
  12. is a result of that research.
  13.  
  14. WXYC virus is becoming relatively common in México. The problem with it is
  15. that the ordinary antiviral programs, like F-PROT and McAfee's, can't remove
  16. it, otherwise, it is a simple virus.
  17.  
  18. In diskettes, it puts the original boot sector at the end of the root directory,
  19. and in hard disks, instead of infecting the Master Boot Record, it attacks the
  20. boot sector of the first partition, usually DOS, and puts the original contents
  21. in sector three, head zero, track zero. In large hard disks this area is used
  22. to store a BIOS extension to handle more than 1024 cylinders, causing
  23. irreversible damage.

  25. This program removes the WXYC virus from hard disks and diskettes.

  27. INSTRUCTIONS:
  28.  
  29.         a) make a backup of the files in the disk to be cleaned
  30.         b) boot from a clean diskette
  31.         c) type: QUITWXYC  [a: | b: | c:]
  32.  
  33. Don't forget to clean your backup disks! (The virus will be in the boot
  34. record, but does not afect program files)
  35.  
  36. If there is any problem, the program will tell you which one.

  39. RESPONSIBILITY IN ANY DAMAGE THAT ITS USAGE MAY CAUSE.

  41. This program can be distributed freely by nonprofit organizations. Companies
  42. and Government agencies must ask for a written authorization to distribute it
  43. in any form. This program can be distributed in CD-ROMs containing collections
  44. of programs.
